Frequently Asked Questions

Who needs health insurance?

We are very lucky to have a National Health Service in the UK. However, everyone can benefit from Private Health Insurance, people who value the reduced waiting times, access to better medicines and treatments, additional comfort and privacy, and more choice and flexibility around when and where treatment takes place.

What is covered?

All insurers have a list of conditions and examples that will not be covered, these are known as “general exclusions”. Some of these general exclusions include routine pregnancy, war, riots and terrorism, and routine maintenance of existing chronic conditions. These will all be detailed within your policy documents but if you would like to know more, give our experts a call and they will be happy to help.

Is there any excess?

An excess is an amount each person on your policy pays towards the cost of a claim. For example, if you choose a £250 excess per claim and your treatment for one eligible claim costs £5,000, you would pay the first £250 and the insurer would pay the rest. In the event of the claim being lower than the excess, then the remainder of the excess “pot” would be used towards the next claim.

Is a medical exam required?

No, absolutely not. Unlike other insurances, like Life Insurance, there are no medical examinations or nurse screenings required. Some policies may ask you some eligibility criteria that can include information about your most recent medical history, however most policies our providers sell do not require you to divulge ANY medical information at all.

Will an existing condition stop you from getting health insurance?

Having an existing condition isn’t a red light to taking out health insurance. But you may find your condition isn’t covered by the policy or there are certain requirements to tick off. You should always check any health insurance policy carefully to make sure you pin down what is and isn’t covered and any other restrictions it might have.

List of pre-existing conditions which can be covered are:

  • Acne
  • Arthritis
  • Asthma
  • Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
  • Crohn’s Disease
  • Diabetes
  • Eczema
  • Fibrocystic Breast Disease
  • Gastro-Oesophageal Reflux Disease
  • Cloucome
  • Hypertension
  • Psoriasis
  • Ulcerative Colitis
  • Varicose Veins

Also, choosing the right underwriting method for your circumstances will also help to determine whether your pre-existing condition might be covered in the future by your health insurance provider.

Is health insurance worth it?

Yes of course, as due to the NHS backlog,, Private Health Insurance is now more appealing than ever.  Anyone can benefit from Health Insurance who values the reduced waiting times, access to better medicines and treatments, additional comfort and privacy, and more choice and flexibility around when and where your treatment takes place.
